Cabin Partners Meeting - Part 2

May 28, 2016

As mentioned in a previous posting to this site, several members in multiple branches of the family suffer allergies from pet hair, pet dander, and pet saliva.  When exposed to these substances, some may suffer mild and somewhat tolerable symptoms, but others require professional medical attention. When dogs, cats or other pets are allowed into the cabin, several of our family members are simply unable to make use of the cabin.  Neither vacuums nor good intentions can resolve the environmental trouble that pets cause those in the family who are allergic.

The partners all recognize that our pets are important to us, and that the enjoyment of some family members is significantly enhanced when it includes being with our favorite animals at our favorite place on Earth.  But that enjoyment cannot come at the expense of the health of those family members who cannot enjoy the cabin at all, if the cabin has been left contaminated with pet allergens.

In light of this issue, the following policy has been adopted by the voting family partner representatives:

"No pets are allowed inside the cabin.  Pets brought to the cabin may be kenneled outside the cabin on either deck, but at no time are they allowed inside the cabin, even at night.  To be clear, pets are not allowed in a kennel inside the front door, nor in the basement.  Not inside - not anywhere, not anytime."

Overnight, only the pet food should be brought inside (so as not to attract bears, raccoons, or other wildlife).

The partners regret any heartburn caused to pet lovers in the family.  But the ethics of the situation require us to set policy that allows all of Stayner and Nana's posterity to enjoy the cabin as a place of peace, comfort, healing, and rejuvenation - unfortunately to the exclusion of snuggling pets inside.

After taking my puppies up to the ranch this last week and keeping them in our RV, I think I am willing to pay to have them stay with someone else while we are at the cabin. As cute as they are, they are not anything close to relaxing! It will be great to have a vacation from them when I go to the Pines!
